Shut Up Imus, Shut Up Poverty Pimps

Please, Don Imus, stop the groveling. You said a stupid thing, you apologized. Move on. Tell Al Sharpton you'll listen to him sermonize about bigotry when he apologizes for the Tawana Brawley incident. That was more racist than anything you said, and here he is giving us a lecture on bigotry? Please, give me a break. He and Jesse Jackson, who is also pretending to be above it all and shocked, SHOCKED! are from the same mold.

Poverty pimps.

Nappy-headed ho's, not to put too fine a point on it. Sharpton claims that we shouldn't just let this drop. Well, I think he should be in jail for ruining the lives of innocent men in order to get some camera time. Imus shouldn't have went on his radio show. Incidents like this are what pimps like Sharpton feed on, and he's not going to let it go as long as it keeps his name in the papers.

Why Don't Afro-Americans Vote Republican?

Last night at the Calvin Coolidge banquet I had the chance to hear Holyoke Police Chief Anthony Scott speak after receiving the public service award for being the best Republican public official and all around stud. I was almost ashamed to have never heard the man speak in the past and feel like we could all learn something from him.

During his award 'acceptance' speech, he said 'You think It's hard being a Republican in Massachusetts; you should try being a Republican and black in Massachusetts". I know it's not easy. One of my very best friends in college, a guy I very much admire and look up to is also an African American and Republican. He used to joke he was a 'walking contradiction'. He was black, Republican, and possibly the biggest hippie I had ever met in my life. Nothing about him made sense, but he was one of the few people I ever met whom I could seriously deem 'unique'.

I remember my friend being called a 'shoe shining, Uncle Tom N**ger' for being a Republican. I remember his listening to the phone messages people would leave at his house. Shockingly, these messages weren't left by white people. They were left by black people. They despised him because he was different. They despised him because he believed in self-accountability and was courageously outspoken on his feelings regarding affirmative action and other controversial issues.

I'm sure Chief Scott's dealt with this kind of stuff plenty of times himself. We all dealt with it a little, as someone decided to phone in a bomb threat to try and deter us from enjoying our function. "No one has done more for black people than conservatives" the Chief said almost with a tear in the eye. Chiefs don't cry though, but it made me seriously pause for a second and realize how thankful I am for good, honest people. It's folks like Chief Scott that restore faith in humanity. It was certainly a pleasure to hear him speak.

I walked away from the event thinking on the drive home about my friend and about people like Chief Scott. Why don't African Americans flock to folks like that in droves? Why do African Americans vote Democrat when it seems their core values couldn't be further from the Democratic Party's idealogical core?

I hate the concept of hyphenated Americans, and maybe I’ll do an article on that subject one of these days, but for the nonce I will accept the politically correct term in order to focus on more pressing issues. I cannot understand why the African-American community seems incapable of recognizing that the party they perpetually prop up is working at cross purposes to their own interests. Furthermore, given the nearly even split between the parties, it is unquestionable that African-American voters have the power to swing elections to the Republican side should they decide to do so. Let’s examine a few positions taken by the Democratic party that are in direct opposition to the best interests of the African-American community.

Gun Control:

The Democratic Party is the party of gun control. These feel-good policies might sound good, but the actual effect is to disarm law abiding citizens, or turn them into unwitting criminals, while doing absolutely nothing to stop gun violence and crime. Given the disproportionately high crime rates in the urban neighborhoods in which many African Americans live, the need to maintain the ability to defend oneself is self-evident. The police aren’t going to be there until long after the crime has been committed. Since the state has no affirmative duty to come to the defense of the citizenry, disarming average citizens seems to be an all cost and no benefit position. The inability to defend oneself, particularly in high crime neighborhoods, has been actively supported by the Democratic Party. This is contrary to the best interests of the African-American community.

School Choice:

The Democratic Party is beholden to the powerful National Education Association, the lobbying arm of the teacher’s unions. Any effort to reform the education system will have to come from somewhere other than the Democrats. Unfortunately, school choice (i.e. vouchers) is vehemently opposed by the Democratic Party. In fact, any serious effort at real education reform will be opposed. If a good education is the foundation for moving up and out of poverty, the Democrats haven’t delivered it in over two generations. This is hardly beneficial to the African-American community which has a disproportionate share of underperforming schools. The Democratic position is again contrary to the best interests of the African-American community.

Gay Marriage:

As one of the most deeply religious and church centered groups in the nation, the African-American community doesn’t support same-sex marriage. The uproar that occurs when the gay community tries to compare itself to the civil rights struggles of African-Americans and co-opt the moral high ground earned by them supports this conclusion. These two Democratic constituencies have very little common ground beyond the way they vote. Given the inordinately high illegitimacy rate in the African-American community, undermining the institution of marriage certainly isn’t in their interests. Getting back to a more traditional family model would be an enormous benefit to the African-American community, but not if it’s compromised in the way the Democrats seem determined to do.

Social Security Reform:

Given the shorter life expectancy in the African-American community, social security is a total rip-off for them. Nearly every dollar earned by African-Americans is subject to the FICA tax, and the wealth accumulated during a longer than average working life is forfeited when the earner dies. Having ownership of these savings would allow families to pass on this accumulated wealth to their children, supplying the seed money from which empires are built. Through their fear mongering, the Democrats have managed to gain support for the confiscation of this wealth from the very people from whom it is being expropriated. This is hardly in the interests of the African-American community.

Affirmative Action:

In what can only be the longest running inside joke in the history of mankind, the elites have peddled this monstrosity to the African-American community. On its face it seems like a good idea and a boon to the recipients of this largess. But it is really nothing more than a condescending willingness to concede that African-Americans cannot succeed without the help of their white superiors. It makes a mockery of the concept of equality and runs counter to the ideas of Frederick Douglas and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Every African-American success is tainted by this program, and the elites get to take credit for being so enlightened. Undermining the concept of merit and installing a sense of entitlement in its place isn’t in the true interests of the African-American community. The staunchest defenders of affirmative action, and its close cousin, diversity, are the Democrats.

Welfare Reform:

The hyperbolic predictions emanating from the Democratic Party on welfare reform never came to pass. The planets didn’t stop orbiting the sun. In fact, once its success was apparent, the first “Black President” jumped to the front of the parade and claimed credit for the success. This reform was only signed in the eleventh hour by a president whose concern for reelection overwhelmed the virulent protests of his party. That welfare reform disproportionately benefited the African-American community is indisputable; as is the Democrat’s opposition to the reform in the first place. Once again, the Democrats were working against the true best interests of the African-American community.

How can the African-American community continue to support the Democratic Party? It just doesn’t make sense to me. The “War on Poverty” hasn’t delivered on the promise in over forty years. We’ve spent enough money to give every poor person at its inception a nice three bedroom home and a college education to every child in those homes, and where are we at? Affirmative action gets candidates into colleges and jobs that are beyond their abilities, and the subsequent inevitable failures that follow are simply ignored. It’s insanity to keep doing the same things over and over again while expecting a different result every time. Isn’t it time for a change? With folks like Chief Scott laying the groundwork, perhaps one day we'll see it.

Masscahusetts Burning? Swan Compares MA to Mississippi

According to State Representative Ben Swan (D-Springfield), Massachusetts is as racist, if not more racist than Mississippi.

Swan said in a sworn statement filed in connection with the case that he once preferred the Deep South to Springfield.

"When I first moved to Springfield (in the 1950s) I wanted to go back to Mississippi because of the racist attitudes I encountered," Swan said.

Yesterday, he testified he believed there have not been equal opportunities for blacks to get elected here, due to fund-raising and networking handicaps.

I'm curious to know whether or not in Mississippi it's o.k. for public officials to not pay their taxes? In any event, the plaintiffs will rest their 'case' tomorrow. Thank the lord.

'Reality Bites' in Ward Rep. Case

The Springfield Republican ran a headline today that read "Realities muddle voting rights suit". 'Muddle'?

No. More like "kills".

US District Judge Michael A. Ponsor sounded like he had enough of listening to the stupidity and questioned whether the proposal to create nine voting districts across the city would really advance equal voting rights, saying "It does collide with logic".

In perhaps the greatest moment of hilarity in an entirely hilarious proceeding, Judge Ponsor pointed out the one thing that no one seemed to touch on that would, you know, be important.

"I'm, frankly, surprised to see a proposal in which..... five of the nine districts are overwhelmingly white." He said. Ponsor also questioned whether this suit came in a little too late, as blacks and Hispanics now constitute a majority of the population in Springfield.

Fortunately Ponsor's bright enough to be setting aside the B.S. so we can get to the real reason we're wasting tax dollars on this trial, that being how far-left groups can insure that their candidates are elected without hassle to the city council year in and year out.

The best, I'm sure, is yet to come.

Ward Representation Trial Week 2

SPRINGFIELD - School Committee member Marjorie J. Hurst testified today that backing failed mayoral candidate Thomas M. Ashe in 2005 boosted her political career in by exposing her to more white voters.

Hurst, taking the stand in the second week of a voting rights trial in U.S. District Court, said Ashe's lopsided loss to Mayor Charles V. Ryan coincided with her strongest-ever showing in a School Committee race.

Underscoring the dynamics of race and politics at the center of the trial, Hurst said she concluded there was one explanation for her success.

"I attended a lot of events with a lot of white people," said the lawyer and four-term incumbent, who served as Ashe's campaign co-chairman.

Hurst was testifying in a lawsuit filed by Arise for Social Justice Inc. and other groups seeking to change Springfield's at-large voting system to district representation.

The trial, based on a lawsuit filed in 2005, is pitting some of Springfield's most prominent civil rights advocates against the city. U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor is overseeing the non-jury trial, which is expected to last two or three more weeks.

Responding to questions from plaintiff lawyer Paul E. Nemser of Boston, Hurst said her vote total for 2005 was second only to Ryan, who coasted to victory against Ashe, a School Committee member and ally of Hurst.

Huh? One would figure that with more than a year to put together a coherent case for Ward Representation, the plantiffs in this case could've done a better job.

Is Marjorie Hurst upset that she had to talk to *gasp* white voters? Any candidate would get a boost in their poll numbers by publicly backing a mayoral candidate, never mind co-chairing their campaign. What is she mad at or trying to prove here? That she had to compromise her values and try and work cooperatively with people she disagrees with? What the heck is the issue at hand here?

This entire trial has proven nothing, except of course, that socialist candidates feel that they should be handed city council seats on silver platters without having to do what everyone else is doing.

Patrick to illegals: "Make a baby, you can stay"

Governor Deval Patrick has a few things to say about the illegal immigrants rounded up yesterday in New Bedford.

The plight of families affected by a New Bedford immigration raid is a "humanitarian crisis" and it's not over, Gov. Deval Patrick said Friday.

The governor's description of the fallout from Tuesday's raid on the Michael Bianco Inc. factory came as he announced that some detainees who are being held out of state are being released and returned to Massachusetts.

Five children and two mothers are among the people being released Friday, he said.

"Our focus is on the children and those other vulnerable people who were affected by this," he said. "It is a humanitarian crisis and it is not over yet."

Wow, a 'humanitarian crisis'!? Isn't that a little over-dramatic, Deval? These people broke the law. If they cared about their kids, they wouldn't have ever put themselves , especially their children, in that kind of a situation to begin with, but bah! Who needs responsibility? We arrest parents all over the United States every day for all sorts of crimes. Many of them are found guilty. Now illegals get to stay with their kids just because they're ILLEGAL?

Memo from Patrick to Illegals: "Want to Stay? Make Babies. TONS of 'em". Did he mention he'll pay for their college tuition too? My only question is: Does each one come with a free credit card?

Patrick apparently said during the campaign that illegal immigration was a federal issue. So why is he making phone calls trying to insure that hundreds of law-breakers are being permitted to stay in the state? This was mere weeks after Patrick announced he was not going to allow state troopers to cooperate with immigration officials.

Despite all of this rhetoric and pseudo chest-thumping, Patrick knew this raid was going to occur. He was told by Federal Officials it was going to happen. He let it happen. But then Deval realized something:

Nothing gets mini-scandals off the front page of a newspaper like starting a little race-fight!

We've all heard the story before: The evil honkeys and some uncle toms too, again, coming in and unjustly rounding up all the 'undocumented' workers and shipping them back to their country because we're all spiteful and racist for enforcing our laws. It will galvanize Deval's base, make him look like a champion of minority rights. Then he could go back to Pod-Casts and possibly open up a chain of taxpayer-funded Coffee Shops and we can all forget about those rocky days in early March.

This, ladies and gentleman, is our Governor. Next time, please vote for an adult.

Coakley-Rivera Testimony a Coincidence?

In a story found on the Springfield Republican's website, State Representative Cheryl Coakley-Rivera (D-Springfield) painted a 'dismal picture of Racial Equality in Springfield'.

Que political grand standing at it's worst in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

State Rep. Cheryl A. Coakley-Rivera, D-Springfield, who is of Irish and Puerto Rican descent, testified she believes her Anglo roots have helped her win white votes over the past several elections.

"My mother is from County Cork. I think that's made a difference. ... People have said that to me," the legislator said under questioning from a lawyer for plaintiffs in a ward representation lawsuit against the city.

Civil rights groups and individuals who brought the suit have argued Springfield's at-large voting for City Council and School Committee largely shuts out black and Latino candidates who face fund-raising and networking challenges in a racially splintered city.

Well this is as big a surprise as the sun coming up in the morning. Rivera's always looking for a fight, whether it's punching someone in the face on the house floor, or screaming about Trash Fees, she's never far from the headlines.

It's the end of the story that's the telling part of this.

Coakley-Rivera did not testify publicly about allegations in her sworn statement about Mayor Charles V. Ryan's former chief of staff, Michelle Webber.

Coakley-Rivera submitted an affidavit last month for trial that detailed alleged racist statements made by Webber at City Hall, including calling a man of Muslim descent a "towel head."

Webber denied making the statements, but ultimately resigned after the legislator's allegations became public.

Of course, this little snippet was tossed in the story for good measure and its worth mentioning because, by now, it should strike no one as a mere coincidence.

What's more convenient than anything are the names and identities of the folks who are being left out of this story, the Ryan Staffers who accused Webber of making these statements. I find it beyond a coincidence that these two staffers were former staffers to Cheryl Rivera once upon a time.

Meddle much?

She's clearly attempting to galvanize the minority vote by showing up to testify in this trial just as much like she probably was during the whole Ryan-Weber 'scandal'. This is a third, very clear shot across the bow of the S.S. Charlie Ryan Steamship.

Cheryl Rivera wants to be Mayor, and she's willing to blatantly use the race card to do it.

It's no secret Ryan and Rivera, who've traditionally been pretty formidable allies, aren't on the same page the way they used to be. The coincidences and timing here stink worse than a burning bag of dog poo.

The message is clear: get out of the way.
